Tom Kite's Golf Psychology - Steel Yourself To Be A Tough Competitor
To improve your game of golf you must realize that your golf psychology can make or break your game.
By STEELING yourself for the worst on the path to winning you can be an extremely TOUGH competitor
Tom Kite and Chip Beck were the final twosome in a Tournament Players Golf Championship many years ago. Chip Beck was off to a terrible start, making four bogeys on the front side shooting 40.
Tom didn't expect Chip to continue this poor game. Instead he used mental golf psychology to do something else;
He EXPECTED Chip to improve his game. He assumed Chip would be as strong on the back side as he had been weak on the front.
Chip did get strong, shooting a mere 31.
Tom stuck to his golf mental game plan. He waited patiently and at the final hole, Tom teed off with a two-stroke lead.
Even though Chip had a difficult, downhill putt of 25 feet, Tom assumed Chip would make that putt.
And sure enough, Chip did.
Tom Kite's stable mental golf psychology and perfect patience enabled him to stay cool and not change his emotional state when Chip made the putt.
Tom holed his par putt and won the tournament.
The simple act of golf psychology like being patient — about everything to do with the game; circumstances, opponents, even your performance — will keep your focus on track.
