Day One

I finally saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie movie, last night.
Yes, they’re good-looking, and yes, they’ve got chemistry, but that wasn’t the most interesting thing about the movie.

Ok, it’s not exactly high brow material, but there’s a moment in it we can all learn from.

Without revealing the entire plot, because of they are both deadly assassins working for competing firms, Pitt and Jolie must kill each other. Their battle end in a stand-off, guns pointed directly at each other. Yet Pitt can’t bring himself to shoot his beautiful wife.

“You want it? It’s yours,” he says, lowering his gun.

Jolie, who was the essence of a cold-hearted killer up until that moment, finally gives in to him and the relationship.

For the first time, she believes he loves her. Trust is born.
